We will be exploring reserved treaty rights by taking an indpth look at two case studies:
Salmon fishing on ceded territories in Washington
Walleye fishing on ceded territories in Wisconsin
Before we discuss the case studies we will need to learn about a number of different concepts that help provide the framework for Tribal land and natural resource management.
Today we will collaborate on a Google Slides presentation that will provide important background for our discussions throughout the semester. There are twelve topics, each one has two slides. Each of you will work on 1-2 topics. Please be respectful of the work of your colleagues and do not delete or change their slides.
You will need a Google Account (if you do not have one you can sign up click here)
In order to shorten the time required to complete this activity you will find authoritative links to background material below; you are welcome to supplement this material, but your sources must be from Tribal government or Tribal organization websites (give priority to these), federal or state government websites, or scholarly sources (no Wikipedia). Throughout the semester take care to check your sources and avoid misinformation that can be found on the web. Put the url to all sources (including images) in the speakers notes for your slides along with your name.
Do not copy and paste unless you use a direct quote in quotation marks; it is best if you rephrase and summarize the material in your own words.
Once the presentation is completed we will go around the room and jointly present the material for discussion.
