For today's activity we will create a class map that can be the basis of a discussion about places that we care about. Each of you has been assigned a layer in the Google My Maps that you will use to construct your own personal map. Once we complete our work we will share it with the class. To help you with your map consider the following questions:
Where do you come from? Place markers in the places where you were born and grew up, and where your family lives. Where are your parents and grandparents from? Make sure that you do not put markers on private residences since your map will be public.
Think about what we have learned this semester and how it might apply to a place that is important to you. Place map markers on the place you wish to share with us and tell us why it is important to you. Add photos and YouTubes, add text, and tell a story about this place.
a. What did you learn from your fellow students that might help you to find ways to protect, preserve, or restore this place? Give us your thoughts in the map pop ups.
b. What did you learn from our guest speakers that might help?
You will need to sign into a Google Account -- if you don't have one you can create one here

This slide tutorial includes information on how to create and share a My Maps -- you do not need to do this with the class map, you can start with finding places and adding markers.
Sign into your Google Account
Click on your layer and you will see a blue bar on the left side -- make sure you see the blue bar befor you start adding content so that all of your content is stored in your layer.
The My Maps automatically saves content. Periodically refresh the map so that you can see what other students are doing. Please be respectful and be careful not to accidentally delete or alter the work that your fellow students are doing in their layers.
