The parcel was a former JC Penny store that burned and after cleanup was made a part of the Standin On the Corner Memorial Park. The outside wall containing the famous mural was preserved. On May 30, 2007 a waiver was received from EPA for 115,000 over the maximum 200,000 allowed in the Brownfields Program.
Former Use: The parcel was a former JC Penny Store/Rasco Building that burned exposing asbestos from the caved in roof and other debris. The walls of the building were unstable so the area was fenced off and the adjacent park was closed to prevent any injuries to people. The original mural that marks it as the Standin on the Corner monument is painted on the outside wall that was preserved. source EPA
